Course Learning outcomes
1. Demonstrate enhanced AI literacy and understanding of its relevance in science education.
2. Identify and utilize various Generative AI tools to support engineering design and inquires of socio-technical issues.
3. Apply pedagogical strategies that integrate AI effectively into science education, promoting student engagement and creativity.
4. Recognize and address ethical implications surrounding the use of AI in science education.
Session 1: Introduction to AI (1 hour)

This session will introduce the fundamentals of AI, equipping teachers with the foundational knowledge to understand the impact of AI in science education.
Session 2: Hands-on Exploration of GAI Tools for Science Education (2 hours)

This session will introduce various GAI tools for data analytics, and video and image generations as well as the knowledge of prompt engineering.
Session 3: Pedagogical Strategies for AI integration in Science Education (2 hour)

This session will explore pedagogical strategies for integrating AI to enhance students’ science learning. Teachers will engage in group activities to discuss and brainstorm of how to leverage AI to transform their teaching practices and to enrich students’ science learning experiences. In particular, teachers will learn about a new educational technology—the IDEALS platform—developed by the HKU CITE team. They will use the IDEALS platform to collaboratively design AI-scaffolded learning activities for science classes.
Session 4: Workshop and Sharing— Ethical Implications of AI Applications in Science Education (1 hours)

This interactive session will focus on the ethical considerations and best practices for incorporating AI in science education, as well as the approaches to fostering responsible practices among teachers and students.
